We finally picked up our first point of the season, with a 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town at London Road.
We had another poor start, with Ipswich talking the lead after 4 minutes, through James Norwood. Christy Pym failed to catch the cross, leaving Norwood with an open goal to tap into. Posh then had the chance to level up, after brilliant work from Frazer Blake-Tracy, who beat his man and delivered a fantastic cross, where Ivan Toney really should’ve done better.
However, Posh were on level terms on the half hour mark, with Ivan Toney heading home from a Marcus Maddison cross. On the 62nd minute Posh were in front, Mo Eisa poked the ball past Thomas Holy, for his first goal for Posh. Ipswich were then rewarded a penalty, as Frankie Kent took down Kayden Jackson. Christy Pym made up for the first goal, by saving Norwood’s relatively poor penalty, to keep it at 2-1. Posh being Posh, went and conceded in the last minute, as we failed to mark properly and had nobody on the front post allowing Luke Chambers to get Ipswich a point.
It was really disappointing, when we played so well second half. Josh Knight was absolutely superb breaking up any Ipswich attacks and starting our attacks. He should be a must starter for the rest of the season. Ivan Toney’s work rate was incredible, assuming his partner had given birth just 24 hours before. To be fair to Christy Pym, I have been one to give him criticism, but he was superb after his error. He made two good saves, as well as the penalty save and looked much more confident with crosses.
Frazer Blake-Tracy has really impressed me, with the way he’s adapted to League One football with such ease. He deserves to start again at Southend. If we play the way we did second half at Southend, we should have far too much for them. So hopefully we’ll get our first win!
